Grannies are the best

I am helping Big Sis aged seven, along with her granny square quest. I love them, they are the knitting equivalent of stocking stitch, a no brainer for me, I was happy to join in.

In truth, she has made about four whole ones but I keep finding her half started ones all around the house! She really gets it, it is a thrill to see.

She doesn't know what they will be, she just loves
making them - me too!

  3. Good for her. I think it's wonderful that she's starting so young. I first crocheted at about nine years old myself, and I hope my daughter will be ready to learn by then.

  7. It's fantastic that she has taken to it at such an age. I know most of us in our golden years were made to learn such skills and then didn't use them until we had our own families but these days it's hard to keep a child's attention when there is so many other things out there to occupy them so well done to Big Sis for taking up the hook and sticking with it.

  8. I love granny squares. I learned myself to crochet last year. I have to say it took quite a while to get to grips with it. I just now need to try and improve beyond the grannies. Joan at www.aviewtothefells.com

    1. I showed H chains and left her to that for ages. She made barbie scarves and belts and hair ties for herself. Then 6 months later I showed her double crochet and she made barbie blankets, beach towels and picnic rugs (with straight sides. Then a few months later I showed her the granny square. It has taken about a year!

  11. I too love grannies they are so fabulous to make and look so pretty - cushion cover would be my suggestion as they come together so quickly. Look forward to see what she decides to make with them :)

  12. Thanks for your crochet lesson plans, Jo :) So far my 7 yr. old Grand has not got the chain down but the last time I showed her how I do it I showed her with my arms around her in sort of a hug and I think that view made more sense to her...she just needs to be patient with herself. xx
