Shirt refashion

I have joined in with Portia at The Makery to refashion a mans shirt. My man is a slim Jim so the donated shirt was small but I loved the vibrant green pattern. It had to make something.

I made a versatile top which can be worn open as a smock over a long sleeved T-shirt. I mean what is the point in making summer clothes with this weather!

I took the flap pockets off the top and moved them to the bottom, threw the flaps in the bin and then made a binding for the neck and sleeves from the original sleeves. I took the scoop hem off and made it short and boxy to the hip. The top yoke is made from thick jersey.

I also wore it as a summer top, you know if by some miracle the sun comes out...

So there you are, my entry into the Refashioners 2015. Do pop over and look at the other creative projects or even enter yourself. There is a great prize but more importantly that is one less shirt in landfill and one more thing in my wardrobe.

  2. Food for thought. My hubby gets through a lot of shirts and there is plenty of material in them as he is big. I've been on the lookout for a simple grey top to wear over blouses. I'll check the next shirts he discards to see if I can upcycle them.

  9. The colors are just right and I think your design is very clever, Jo. As a wedding shower gift a friend took one of her husbands shirts and some pretty rainbow striped material for wrap around pockets and made an apron smock for me that I used for at least 30 years...I may even have it tucked away...or gave it to one of my girls to use...at any rate it was well used, appreciated and a loving reminder of my friend. :)
