Colour change

I like to change my wardrobe over from season to season. It is a great way to kid myself that I need to make one more dress without seeing all the ones I already have all at once! It also feels like shopping for new things - I forget that I had this skirt or that top until it makes another seasonal appearance.

This lovely array of bright colours has gone to the big drawer in the sky, on the top floor under the spare bed for a rest.

Cotton dresses, cotton skirts, little shrugs, short sleeved tops and flimsy blouses changed for...

An autumnal mix of corduroy, velvet, wool, lined skirts, purple, navy, green and black.

I also got out some jumpers and cardigans. You know, old friends who I needed to get acquainted with again. My Miette cardigan in Rowan wool, my shetland top down jumper and my Noro chunky scarf.

It also inspired me start a new crochet project as I remembered I had the last two balls of the Rowan wool in that beautiful petrol colour.

Seasonally I rake out a 16 year old Laura Ashley box cardy I bought with my first teacher wages in 1998. I want to recreate that in my lifetime - I adore it. It has been darned on the elbows, got bigger as the years have passed and I am on the third set of buttons but I still love it!

Do you swap your clothes over seasonally or do I just look like a real loony now?

  1. You're definitely quite sane! I do the same seasonally as well. My wardrobe doesn't look half as vibrant as yours though-you have far more fun colours in your Autumn than my conservative black and blue, but I do have lots of green and purple -love Autumn colours. The Rowan wool is so gorgeous-perfect Autumn shade xx

  2. I don't have arranged clothes for any season. I just have clothes and I either wear them or not wear them. No other thought given.

  3. It's not something I would normally do but I just may have to think about it now you've posted about it.

  4. I have done this ever since leaving school in 1969, in fact I did this job last weekend. Tomorrow I am off to find 3 polo necked jumpers and some thick tights. I want to make 3 skirts and maybe 2 petticoats. In the spring it will be a few tee shirts and possibly 3 dresses.

  5. I change my wardrobe over, actually from one room to another but fundamentally the clothes are changed. I love to rediscover old favourites.

  7. Definitely not a loony....I do this too. I simply don't have room enough in my wardrobe to store summer and winter clobber together.

  8. I do too normally. I have a big case in the loft and either summer or winter clothes live in it. But we are having a loft extension at the moment and the lack of storage is putting strain on my wardrobe! Can't wait to be organised again.

  9. I do the same thing, Jo! I don't usually move the clothes out of the drawers or closet, but I'll push them to the back or just stop reaching for them when the season changes. Our summers are hot and our winters are cold, so we definitely need different things. The in-between seasons are about the same as one another, so I just wear the same things in both.

  10. I love that you love your cardigan! I don't change things over, I don't have lots of clothes so they all fit in the wardrobe/drawers at once, but I do change which ones I wear - more jumpers and long sleeve tops! xx

  11. The reverse is happening here in Australia: muted woolies out, bright cottons in.

  13. I'm like Amy too. I don't keep lots of clothes but I will be getting out my 5 long sleeved t shirts that I bought from Matalan at the end of last Winter. I've knitted 2 new waistcoats to go with them. I'm on a 3rd one now. I wear the same skirts. Though this Autumn I have 4 new ones ( gone up a size ! ha ha.) Some clothes will be given away, to make space.

  14. We don't have seasonal clothes here, but from looking at the adds with all the coats and boots you would think it was freezing here. I do have a few Winterish clothes, and of course boots I wear once or twice a year, but they don't really count as I have had them for years and years.

  15. Yes I have done the seasonal swap, although there are a couple of items that I have left in the wardrobe in the misguided belief that there might be a couple of more nice days left
