We celebrated Little M's sixth birthday this weekend with a bake off party and some light crafting.
The children made cakes, decorated them and made a wooden spoon dolly. A bigger hit than I thought it would be. They loved doing them.
Mmm, yes she could melt her own butter with that smile. Don't be deceived, she is a feisty little character full of guts and determination.
I let them loose with the decorations and piping bags.
On Sunday we went on the train to Birmingham Museum and Art gallery for a day out. It was good, the children liked different bits of the day but on the whole I liked taking them to the big city.
Such great experiences for two country mice.
We saw: people with different accents, people with different coloured skin, people without a home, street entertainers, people playing music, food going round on a conveyor, women holding hands, busy places, quiet places, friendly faces and so much more. We must do it more really, I think it is important for them.
I am not sure they totally got my synopsis of the Pre-Raphaelite art movement but there you are! A good day out all round.
Thanks for popping by. Have a good week. Jo xxxx
Happy belated birthday, looks like she had a whale of a time. Such a great idea to make the wooden spoon dollies. That would make a great project for my grandchildren next time they visit, if you don't mind me copying.
ReplyDelete5 spoons 99p - Fill your boots mama, ideas are for copying! Jo x
DeleteGreat birthday celebration! Happy birthday Little M.
ReplyDeleteOh the wonder of a day trip to the city ~ explosion of senses. Whose hat is she wearing?
They had dress up stuff for children in each gallery so you could be like the subjects in the paintings. They also had backpacks with activities for children free of charge including story books, I spy games and little jigsaws - genuis!
DeleteHa ha, just bought a pack of small wooden spoons in the pound shop to make spoon dollies too! Great minds eh?! Looks like she had a great birthday. Love the picture of her in the hat, beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat is where I had the idea, right there in the aisle looking for paper plates in a pound shop. They loved it. Jo x
DeleteHappy Birthday to your six year old young lady. We are in London just now and my little boys make experiences like yours in Birmingham. We are city birds but Glasgow is provincial compared to London. So many interesting people! x
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday , M! Looks like you had a fun party. I would like to make a wooden spoon dolly.

Happy birthday, Little M! Her party looks like it was a lot of fun. My kids don't smile as nicely as I'd like them to in photos either; I often think that it's going to look like we led a grim life when they go back through their childhood photos. :)
ReplyDeleteA belated Happy 6th birthday xxx xxx
ReplyDeleteBelated happy birthday to Little M. Looks like a great day was had.
ReplyDeleteThe party looks like loads of fun, Happy Birthday to your big girl! And you are so right the more they see in the world the more normal it all is. Did that make sense?
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
A belated Happy Birthday to Little M from me, too, Jo. Thanks for sharing some of the celebration with us...I love the photos and great ideas. We have never made spoon dollies, but they look like a fun project. My youngest daughter and I have been watching the reruns of the Great British Baking Show on our public broadcasting station and we really are enjoying them. xx
