Stash Busting Vintage

I am joining in with the vintage pledge again this year over at Stitching Odyssey and Kestrel Makes. I really enjoyed it last year and found that I wore the items I made a lot and they really were part of my everyday wardrobe. I have got used to looking for bust size rather than the women's sizes we are aware of these days. You can join in or just take a peek by clicking on the tab in the sidebar.

I bought this pattern last Autumn. I was tempted because, what other skirt could you possibly want when you have all these styles in one packet?

I am short so I knew I would have to shorten the circle skirt. I have never made this style before so I was not sure if it would suit me either. I tried it out using a piece of black and mustard tweed hounds tooth which was gifted to me in a huge box of unwanted vintage craft goodies from a work colleague just recently. I accommodated the pattern piece by shortening my skirt before I cut it.

The waist was a great fit. I have worn it to work a few times and now my black cardigan is in circulation, it certainly has a perfect partner. I enjoyed a bit of experimental frayed applique with some ric rac along with some buttons.

A success with some free fabric. Win Win!

Thanks for looking. Jo xx

  1. That looks great. I made a couple of circle skirts for my daughter a few years ago and she loved them. I found the hardest part to sew was the hem.

  2. It looks like a lovely skirt, I've bought a few circle skirts lately but have never attempted to make one. The pattern does look good though x

  3. The new skirt looks fab! I haven't worn a skirt in years. I really must. I am afraid I am too fat for vintage patterns, too much adjustments. I'll enjoy your vintage sewing instead :-)

    1. If you are a none skirt wearer, skirts and leggings are the way forward, there are a mother and daughter at school who both do it so well. They are not slim but they always look fabulous. Jo x

  7. Just lovely, Jo. You look very nice in it. I love that style of skirt. It kind of reminds me of Laverne and Shirley, which is a good thing. I liked their clothes. :)

  12. That looks great, I love your appliqué detail.
I am wondering how tall those ladies on the packet are supposed to be! You shortened yours and it's still knee length, they have theirs over the knee - they must be some sort of giants!
