Not done much patchwork or quilting before so here goes... I would really like to get rid of lots of bits and scraps to empty a drawer in the spare bedroom. I am trying to furnish our cabin with stuff I already have cluttering up the house to be really thrifty. Wish me luck....
Any quilting tips? What do I need to put in between the sandwich?
Ever the optomist Jo xxxx
I like to use cotton batting inside, is that what you mean? I think the cotton washes nicely and is pillowy and warm. Looking forward to seeing what you make! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck! You have some very pretty fabrics, I know you'll make something beautiful! Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteYou've got some lovely fabrics to work with. I would suggest using a white wadding as I notice you have some material with white backgrounds and an off white or other colour might show through. Happy quilting. Liz x
ReplyDeletePretty colors for quilting, Jo. Your afghan from the previous post is amazing. Lots of stitches and done in such a fun manner!
ReplyDeleteI have absolutely no advice I can give you as I've never quilted before but am totally excited by your colour selection and desperate to see how it all comes out as I think it will look fab.
ReplyDeleteNo advice from me either I'm afraid, other than to say that I am sure that what you produce will not be crude, but it will be beautiful and will be a great use of your fabrics and a very pretty addition to the cabin! Looking forward to seeing how you get on and to hearing what your advice and thoughts are on quilt making as you go along the process. xx
ReplyDeletegood luck - if you discover the secret let me know!
ReplyDeleteGood luck and have fun, it's something I'd love to learn

Love your fabric prints! I dream of making patchwork someday using sewing machine. The huge batting is a deterrent for me to keep away from quilting. Good luck to you:)
ReplyDeleteHi Lovely Jo a small (very small) quilt is on one of my 'to do' lists this year and I keep putting it off - I will be very interested in how you get on with yours and you are inspiring me to get on with mine. Good luck, I know that you will be fabulous as you always are Jo. Have a wonderful week. Lots of love

You've got some pretty fabrics there. I'm afraid I only ever made one quilt and it's far from perfect so I'm not the person to ask. But I have an out of hand fabric stash and need to do something with it - I've been thinking of a hexies quilt for some time. x
ReplyDeleteBrave woman! I need to cut squares for a patchwork quilt I want to do...I've been told cotton batting is good, but have no experience with quilts. I made a little nine patch pillow all by hand with a dear lady patiently coaching me through every stitch :) You continue to inspire me, Jo! xx
ReplyDeleteHiya Jo - have replied to yours on mine, thanks - yes, cotton batting is what I used - hey, all the very best with this and I'll be watching your progress for yet another successful project! Joy x
ReplyDeleteOf course you can start another project! In fact I'm sure if you only have 4 on the go it's ok to start a 5th ;-) It sounds like a good plan to use up some fabric but make something beautiful at the same time. More room for more fabric :D
