I made the waist with deep elastic. Measured a loop of elastic to fit my waist, folded it into quarters and marked the points. Then marked the quarter points of the skirt waist and used a stretch stitch on the machine to apply it, stretching the elastic to the skirt as I sewed.
In all honesty, it is a bit too big. The pattern is in multiples of 12 so I would take 12 off next time but with only a chart pattern written by a Russian woman that had absolutely no dimensions on, I struck pretty lucky.
Did I forget to mention I LOVE it! I was too busy being analytical there for a moment. I feel like Joni Mitchell every time I wear it.
Later this week I have a photo diary of my skirt in the making to help along anyone who wants to give it a go. I miss making it already.
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Your skirt is beautiful! Well done - it really does look like a challenge. I would certainly wear a crochet skirt but not without a petticoat of some sorts :)
ReplyDeleteWow I'm in awe!!! i've always wanted to make a crochet skirt :) It's wonderful - enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely!!
ReplyDeleteOMG that is just amazing Jo! You are truly a crochet expert-it is just gorgeous. I would love to make a skirt or dress...it looks fabulous! xx
ReplyDeleteThis is cool, I've never thought of crocheting a skirt.
ReplyDeleteFantastic!!! You really are such an amazing crocheter Jo! I went and listened to Joni after seeing this and in the clip I saw she was wearing a dress with a crocheted top. It really suits you. I hope that you enjoy wearing it. Oh and no, I would not be wearing this without something on underneath! xx
ReplyDeleteIt's stunning, you are extremely quick at making things I do admire that. I do have a pattern of a crochet skirt which I would really like to make one day. Alas my crochet skills are still nearly none existent other than a granny square & the yarn used in the project was a particularly expensive silk one, it will remain a far off dream. I was in fact tearing my hair out over a simple ripple stitch last night so yes definitely a far off dream! x
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful Jo. I've been listening to Joni too....love that song.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing how it progressed....you did a brilliant job and it really suits you.

Haha I loved that Joni Mitchell song (which means I'm showing my age again). Its a lovely pattern and you are a braver women than I for even having a go. Well done it looks fantastic but I think you're right I would have to wear a petticoat.
ReplyDeleteThat looks incredible - and you carry it off so well! Cx
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. Hats off! You are most clever Jo. Enjiy it! Bee xx
ReplyDelete*enjoy* butterfingers ;)
DeleteOh W.O.W - that's fabulous! Love, love, love it - and yes I'd so wear it... but definitely not without a petticoat ;-)
ReplyDeleteWell done, and wear it with pride!
xx
LOVE IT! Definitely a petticoat though - although it could be the perfect excuse to show off my home made knickers ;) Good old Joni x Jane
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that! You look fab. I hope you made extensive notes on Ravelry for numpties like me who always get the sizes wrong. x
ReplyDeleteOh Jo, it's so lovely! You look like a true lady of the canyon. I can see it over leggings too, or over a big cottony white petticoat with the lace trim peeking out underneath. Excellent work. :)
ReplyDeleteIt truly is a lovely crochet skirt. Look forward to seeing the workings of it. Wear it over leggings or a pretty slip. I crocheted a very easy straight skirt and love it.
ReplyDeleteCame over via Cozy Things blog to see your skirt. Wow!! This turned out beautiful. I really like the color and it looks cute with your boots. Well done!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I love it! Congratulations on challenging yourself and on your success! I'd definitely wear a skirt like that! And, yes...I'd definitely wear a skirt under it. It's fantastic! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Would definitely wear with slip or leggings! I like the length as well!

Hey Jo, your skirt is a masterpiece! You could sew lots of petticoats in contrasting colours to wear with it and it would be like having a new skirt on each time. You wear it well, Sam xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And it looks cozy as well! As well as complicated, so congrats on sticking with it and getting it finished - labors of love are sometimes the best things ever!
ReplyDeleteWow, wow, wow! I love it, you did a fantastic job and I think it fits you perfectly.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith

ReplyDeleteOh wow! gorgeous and very well done!
ReplyDeleteLluisa xoxo
Well done earth sister! Perhaps you can crochet some pants to go with it. I do know a man who crocheted his own underpants with yarn made from nettles. You think I am joking? xx
ReplyDeleteWow it's fantastic! Well done you, it looks amazing.

Thats really clever Jo!

Ahhh Joni Mitchell :-) I would absolutely wear it, from your photos it doesn't look too big but I guess you can tell when wearing it. I just love the way it falls. Was it as complicated as it looks? x
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this?? It's AMAZING! You look great in it. It would make me want to put flowers in my hair and listen to Joni.
