A Sitting Down Project

I have been recovering slowly so I have found a little sitting down job because I still have my big girl off school with a mouth full of ulcers and a raging temperature.

I snaffled saved stole a mirror from my Great Aunts house clear out in January, it had been empty for over four years since her passing. My dad and my uncle were not in the mood for me to be picking over things, let's face it, they just wanted to get the job done. But I quickly, while no one was looking, put a bathroom shaving mirror in the boot of my car which was destined for the skip.

I liked the shape and proportion of it. Bloke didn't like the fact it had woodworm holes in it so he treated it all over. Next I painted it with a thin coat of paint. I wanted to take the darkness out of the wood but see the distressing through the paper.

Then I put on a pinny and decopatched it. I have done this before on items and have learnt from experience that curved edges are difficult to keep smooth with the paper so I left the ball feet and mirror screws untouched. I couldn't believe it when I unscrewed the mirror and they were wooden threads - such craftmanship, I felt I had to respect that.

The mirror needs a bit of a spot clean from my tacky fingers but my back needs a lie down now. I really like it and it has broken the boredom of being ill at home.

  5. Great rescue, Jo! In the art group projects I have done in the last two years I was shown how peeling the decorative print layer from a paper napkin can be used really well for decoupage on a rounded surface like a bottle. Have you tried that before? xx

  10. That's a fantastic up-do. A downside to being incapacitated, at least no one can take away your creativity. Hope your back is soon mended.
