Walking back to the car I was stopped in my tracks by a box of patterns outside an Antique/house clearance shop. I was in a hurry to pick up the children but I just had to stop and rummage.
The vendor informed me that none of them had been cut and he had collected them from an old ladies house who had passed away. I made a selection and resisted the urge to buy them all on her behalf.
This one was my favourite, I love them all.
I have my eye on the lace one in the centre on this pattern.
These choices were heavily influenced by Lazy Daisy Jones OWOP (one week one pattern challenge) posts as well as the fact I like to wear a dress for work - it is a quick no brainer for me on busy mornings.
These two are bit more on the wildcard list but I like the collars.
So I will keep you posted of any makes. Will any actually make it to the cutting table? we'll see... Which you would you make?

Oh I am so jealous, I adore those patterns, what a great haul! I've just come back from rummaging around charity shops but I didn't get any good stuff this morning. I can't wait to see your makes x
ReplyDeleteWhat treasure! I looooove 6634 and 6749. Can't wait to see them all made up! Jane x
ReplyDeleteJust in case you find the vintage patterns a bit perplexing, I know Tilly and the buttons has posts on understanding the different markings on them etc. Also the sizing can be quite different to modern patterns. The styles you have chosen are really pretty modern, it's just the artwork on the covers that are dated. I hope you do make up some of them as they are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThey are all stunning, I love a vintage pattern. Don't forget to measure before you cut the pattern out as the body shape was different to sizes these days. Have a fun...
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a find. You are going to have so much fun.

Hi there, just catching up now I am back, I have been reading, but not left comments. I love the tops in the first one and the dresses on the 6634 one, although it might be the borders around the bottoms that I love most! I hope that you enjoy making them and wearing the results as they are lovely!!! Well done to you all on your various wins at the show!! xx
ReplyDeleteIf I sew from a pattern it has to be simple. So I would choose number 7642. Great finds.
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic finds! I would probably start with the shell top from the first pattern as I love that style of top. Looking forward to seeing what you make!

I've found some fun ones like that, too. Don't know if Ill ever make one...would be fun to try :) maybe if you do, I will, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI seriously don't know how you resisted the whole box! You've got more will power than me for sure!

I'd make the 3/4 sleeve version of the top at the top and the collared dress and jacket of the bottom one. Seeing these vintage patterns almost tempts me to get out the sewing machine again. In my teens and twenties I was quite the seamstress, but these days I won't even sew on a button!
ReplyDeleteThey are amazing what a fortunate find....and thank you for the very generous link Jo.

Ps vintage patterns come up smaller than our modern sizes, cant wait to see how you get on xxxx
I just have to say that back in the sixties at my High School we had a clothes company come and we modeled the samples, probably was for Simplicity patterns, because Pattern # 6634 with the long sleeves and stripes around the sleeves and bottom, is what I modeled. The sample I modeled was red with blue trim the same as in the picture, only the long sleeve version. I love old patterns, great find.
