We had family visitors to stay and my Uncle loves this cake so we made it specially for him. We didn't have any walnuts but actually the toasted almonds tasted better, not so bitter with the coffee.
Bloke is 40 today. Happy Birthday! He has opened his presents. A big Thank you to Tales from Swallow barn for recommending a cookbook to me. I bought it straight away and he loved it. Every recipe has a vegetable or fruit ingredient which is great for our allotment production and he makes a mean cake.
He was quite taken with Lemon and Lavender drizzle cake which contained a swede so we will have to wait and see what happens there!
Hope you are enjoying cake today! Jo x
Hi Jo those cakes looks absolutely scrumptious, could just eat them all right now! I shall have a look at this book as I am looking for a special gift for my lovely daughter-in-law who is a fab cook like you and cakes are her speciality. A great post as always Jo, always love reading your blog. Have a great day

Oh my that cookbook looks lovely, I'm going to add it to my wish list! I have her 'Salad for All Seasons' book, which I totally recommend - every recipe do far has been a big winner! Happy Birthday to your hubby!!! Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you liked the book Jo - I love it and everything I've made has been fab. And so good to have something different to do with a glut of courgettes, or beetroot etc. I've not tried that drizzle cake so let me know how that works out!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love coffee cake, haven't had one in ages so I might just have to make one tomorrow!
Swede in a cake! Not heard of that before. I made a beet root cake last year though. Happy birthday to Bloke.
