Failure alert!

YUK! I can't wear it. Clara the dress stand can't wear it. In fact it is so unbalanced it can't even wear itself!

That varigated yarn on a garment made in sections throws the hole thing out. Slope stripes, none matching stripes, curly border (steam blocked I might add) thick stripes, thin stripes - Eeeer, horrible.

I tried to add a felt brooch but have you ever the heard the phrase, 'You can't polish a turd!' I love that phrase it makes me roar with laughter. So comment all you like, I will be going, 'DA,da,DA,Da' whilst holding my hands over my ears and laughing to myself.

Tis' resting in my charity bag and I am glad that I no longer have to look at that wool in my yarn basket. Jo XXXX

EDIT: You are all so lovely kind soulful people - I had crochet class tonight and a member offered to buy it off me she liked it so much! It was her birthday so I gave it to her as a present and said if she wanted to move the buttons, just have 3, wash it, block it again etc she was free to give it a new home. She was thrilled and so was I. I can go to bed happy now. 10pm Ahhhh.

  1. Oh I don't know... you could unravel it and make a top down seamless jumper, avoiding the matching up problem. You could even cut it open in the front and turn it into a cardigan. Or you could wear it for gardening? Or use it for a fun scarecrow if you really can't bear it. I don't think it is that bad. I have made worse that's for sure. Yes, I do love that phrase, too! x

  2. Oh Jo! After all your hard work. This is such a shame. I don't suppose that it would be suitable for wearing in the cabin as an extra layer or something? It seems so sad, but I understand. I find variegated yarn very hard! Your actual knitting is lovely though, and the edging is so pretty! xx

  3. After laboring on it for so long, I don't think I could muster the strength to chuck it! It's a bit, well, "off", sure, but it's charming in a way. Sort of like how the "Ugly Sweater" Christmas parties? But in a good way!

  4. That's going to be my new fave phrase! I think we've all been there when we've made something I like to call 'fugly' (see here! http://www.ravelry.com/projects/nicoleandthebee/ugly-cushion) although I don't really think it's that bad - honestly! Someone will think it's great so I hope it finds a loving home. It would have made a great knitted toy though :-)

  9. What a shame after all of your hard work, I do like the border though. It was still very kind of you to give it to someone who wanted it, at least all your work meant something. Oh my I like that saying, I can imagine that coming out of my mouth over the next few weeks I'm sure.

  10. Just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, obviously it was meant to be.

  11. What a wonderful outcome! You still might have to look at it but at least someone else will be wearing it.

  12. My daughter uses the phrase you can't polish a turd and it always makes me laugh. So glad you were able to make someone's day with your cardigan not one of my favourites I have to admit. I am not a fan of variegated yarn I can never make it work how I plan.

  13. Haha what a shame! It's so annoying when you spend ages making something and it turns out just not quite right. Do you have a cat who might appreciate it more? :)

  17. I am with your friend, I really like it and I go back to the white t-sirt and jean idea, it is perfect. It isn't supposed to be all matchy. Glad it found a loving home.

  18. The only way to match up that kind of wool, is to waste some and pull to the start of the repeat of the dye. I did this and made a jumper and 2 cardi's in King Cole Splash. One I've had for 5yrs! Good wool. Its a bit of a pain but I was happy with the result. I hope you don't mind me saying but it didn't need the edging. I really like the colours.

  19. Oh, the stripes on the back will be narrower than the 2 fronts, obviously.....probably why I like my jumper best

  22. Oh Jo you're so funny! You crack me up, you really do. Ok, I can see why you don't like it, and I know how it is to have balls of yarn taunting you from the yarn stash...I am just really glad that you've not done all that hard work for nothing, and that someone will treasure that handmade item. xx

Ps. re the comment marathon - did it cos I wanted to as I think you and your blog are ace. :-)

  23. I love looking at balls of variegated yarn, they are always really scrummy but then you work them up and as you say it's all unbalanced and somehow not right. Hence lots of variegated yarn in my stash. Must stop buying it.
FWIW I think your Cardy is lovely, what pattern did you use ?
And how lovely of you to give it to your class mate :)
