A picture says a thousand words

A picture tells a thousand words...

St John's church where my great-grandad, grandad, dad and I were christened along with other family milestones of death, birth and marriage.  The Caradoc and Lawley hills of South Shropshire, watching sunsets, foxgloves and primroses, sheep and wildlife, hazel trees, a campfire for marshmallows and of course our cabin built in 2014.

But I think it says even more that I took the time to make the memory in naive stitches and I am really rather proud of that. I took inspiration on this crafty journey from Gillian's holiday image at Tales from a Happy House blog where I love to go every Friday for happy vibes.

This weekend we went to the cabin, lit the logburner, shared the evening with friends, ate hot potatoes and chilli, then we watched the children enjoy sparklers.

I'm feeling rather whimsical..... Jo xxxx

  1. It is beautiful Jo!! I love all the different elements you have included, the church and the fire and so on. Also, I really like the way that you have shaded things like the cabin, it really adds great texture and depth to the piece! Beautiful!!! xx

  4. Just wanted to add - I've gone and had a nosy at your other cabin posts and to say I am envious would be the understatement of the year :) It truly looks fabulous, a perfect retreat from which many happy family memories will be made I'm sure :)

  8. I just bought two embroidery hoops! I am a bit worried about my own design because drawing is not my strength... love your little hoop, it looks so happy. x

  9. Hi there Jo, I just found you through Emerald Cottage and I am so glad that I did. It´s always so nice to find an inspiring blogger. Your work is beautiful and I love the idea of stitching a picture out of your memory. I have been playing with the idea of trying my go at needle work and I think I just got that extra push that I needed.

Hope you have a great week.

  10. Wow, Jo. It's gorgeous and I really love it. I'm not very good at embroidery, especially the more free-form types, but I'm trying to learn. I'm very impressed with yours, I think you can do just about anything. :)

  11. That's so, so lovely. The style of stitching is perfect for the picture of the cabin, but of course it's the memories that it evokes that matter the most. x

  12. Well done, Jo! You have created a family treasure. I admire Gillian's seasonal pieces as well. But perhaps what I admire most is that both of you dare to exercise your creativity. Anne Bradstreet, wrote poetry back in the mid 1600s and wrote that some of those around her thought that she should be occupied with more practical pursuits. Still she wrote and some of her work was published. Finding out, when I was about ten that I was related to her and reading some of what she wrote, had a profound affect on my life. As a Puritan in New England Anne endured many hardships including having her home burned down, but because of her writing I know she faced this challenge with faith in God that all was still well and knowing that has encouraged me to grow in faith also. Her life encourages me to exercise my creativity, too. What you make may have positive influence you never dreamed possible! xx
