Emma, Dianne and Michelle

A seasonal make for you today, a warm lined pinafore with a more formal edge than the usual bib and braces pinafore style.

The pattern is called Emma from a Simply sewing magazine and it has a lovely fit straight from the packet. Dianne from Sew,Create and  Recycle did a swap with me towards the end of lockdown. I sent her some bag-making fabric then she sent me some patterns she didn't want. She definitely lives up to her blog name.

The top has an empire line with gathers under the bust. This was a thick brocade fabric so extra special attention had to be paid to the gathers. If the truth be told, I did the lower waistband seam twice because the first time I only used one row of gathering stitches and it was all bumpy and not spread evenly across the centre of the skirt. I used two rows of gathers to get it right which I knew I should have done in the first place!

The fabric is a woven brocade given to me by my friend Michelle in my 'lockdown' fabric bag which she donated on my back doorstep as a surprise. Due to the thickness of the fabric, I made one side of the pocket out of lining to reduce bulk at the hips.

Thank you to all involved in my free pinafore: Dianne, Michelle and of course Emma. I would definitely make it again. I would love a red  or patterned cord one.

Thanks for dropping by. I appear not to be disguising the fact that it is cold by the strained looks on my face!
What are you making this Autumn/Winter?

  1. It's lovely and it really suits you. I love how many people were involved in the various parts. Not much crafting time here lately (I'm doing NaNoWriMo) but I do have a scarf on the go and I'm having a bash at linocutting. I gave the children kits a couple of years ago and waited patiently until the novelty had worn off and someone was ready to lend me theirs.

  2. Love the style of the pinafore Jo and it looks lovely on you. Very elegant. I have a crochet project I am working on at the moment but it is for my daughter as a surprise at Christmas. She often visits my corner so I can't show you yet but hopefully by the end of the year.

  4. Emma looks really lovely on you Jo. So sorry I didn't see the kind message you left me over on my blog until now. I've just been looking at your house too...and that dreamy quilt. It all looks amazing and must be so satisfying to know it's through your own hard work. Well done!

  6. I just finished my coat, now planning a dress (Megan Nielsen's Sudley dress). This has gathers, too so I shall try and remember to make to lines of gathering stitches. Your pinafore looks fab, it is a style that really suits you. I think a red cord one would be brilliant, a splash of colour for winter xx

  7. Another success in my opinion, and I was impressed with your solution for making the pockets less thick. xx

  8. Wow it looks so good on you, I knew it would not suit me and you have made it in such a lovely fabric. The white shirt really sets it off too. I am just catching up as I have been busy Christmas mask making, I have more to do tonight I had no idea they would be popular with family and friends. Have a good week. x
