Winter Link Party

This looks deceptive folks - this is not going well. My pin wheel blocks have been popping out of the machine between dressmaking projects and stowed in a drawer. I lost count of how many I had made so I got them all out to take a stock....

...and to my horror, a gasp of gargantuan proportions came out of my mouth as I slowly realised that some looked like swastikas...

Not just a little bit, but a lot. I laid them all out on the floor and walked out of the room to sulk downstairs.

Andy returned home and asked me what the matter was because my face looked so disconcerted and I asked him to take a look in the spare room with out any back story to influence him.

He returned and said, 'You seem to be making a fascist duvet!' which made me smile in its cadence but not in light of the whole situation. Most are fine, so I will have to unpick a few and rearrange the patterns and colours to avoid the final outer colour highlight which gives the unsavoury silhouette.

Ho Hum! Here's hoping your winter projects are more successful, just popping over to see some now.

  1. Dear Jo
At least you realised at a point when you could rearrange the patterns! Annoying to have to undo some though. Ho hum indeed!
    Best wishes

  2. I never even noticed... I just admired the individual fabrics, missing out the big picture. I am hopeless like that. I might copy the little squares with four stripes, I like these very much. Lots of non fascist pattern arrangement options :-) Still wearing the shawl ALL THE TIME! I got lots of compliments already. Life is good. xx

  3. Oh dear!! Like Ellie says at least you noticed now and not when you had sewn the patchwork together or even quilted it. At least it's only a few!

  5. Oh Jo! I needed a laugh and this gave me one. Not laughing at you, just how these crazy situations can appear from nowhere all by themselves. As others said, you noticed and it can be sorted and that is all good. Try and think of it this way, it offered someone who needed it a smile (me) so perhaps it was meant to be because of that! Good luck with it dear.

  6. Oh dear such a shame after all your hard work but at least you noticed before you started quilting. It really could have been a whole lot worse. On a more positive note some of the fabrics are beautiful and will look amazing when it is all put together. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

  7. I watched a programme this week that said swastika comes from sanscrit svastika and meant good fortune /wellbeing and is a sacred symbol in buddhism and hinduism ~ they showed it painted outside houses in India.

  8. I apologise for finding this funny, poor you, there's nothing more annoying than having to undo the offending pieces. Good luck with sorting it out and thank you for cheering me up. Fiona x

  10. Oh bless you Jo, and once you've seen it you can't unsee. A solution will come to mind I'm sure. Don't forget to let us know what the solution is.

  12. Okay I know it isn't funny, but it is! That is so not you, I mean the belief system those swastikas represent. Better to know now that to have the whole thing done and you look at it and realize what happened when it is finished!

  13. I would have simply thought "Rail Fence Pattern" or something similar but once you mention it, now I see it....good luck with the unsewing :)

  14. Oh no! Sorry but I had to laugh, hopefully you can sort it with minimal
    re-arranging. xx

  15. Your Andy is delightful! I recently read...somewhere... that breaking every sixth stitch speeds the task. I tried it on a seam I needed to rip out in my practice patchwork pillow and it did seem to help make the task seamless :)

  16. Hahaha, that was really funny. I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh at your misfortune but it's cracking me up. I don't think I would even have noticed myself, but now that you point it out...poor Jo. I'm sure you'll find the right thing to do. You're very good at piecing. Thanks for joining in with my link party. :)

  17. Oh no! Although "fascist duvet" made me smile. Thank goodness you noticed at this point and before there was a great deal more work to undo. x

  18. Oh Jo! I'm sorry but that did make me laugh. A fascist duvet... Brilliant. At least you spotted it now, rather than at the end. xx

  19. I didn't notice. At least you've realised now and not when you lay out your new finished quilt on your bed. :)
