Sewing Fleece

It is getting harder to knit things for Big Sis these days, she is getting taller and it is taking me nearly as long to knit her a garment as it is for myself. So I turned to some fleece fabric to make a pullover for her in speedy time. The more astute of you will notice it is actually on the littler one! I made it too small. Grrr!

Never mind, she loved it but she has so many clothes already. I did learn though that it is super fast to make a sweatshirt from fleece and that all kinds of customising could be done to satisfy my creative girl's brain - pockets, neck bindings, hood, applique rabbit, her suggestion, not mine!

I am calling it a success even though it is for the wrong person. She looks so innocent doesn't she? She whipped that one from right under her big sister's nose... 'who me? little 'ol me! I think it fits, please mummy can I have it?!'

  1. Jo, that looks lovely on her. What pattern did you use? I am thinking they would make great gifts for my Grandchildren. I have a stack of fleece fabric that I bought in the sales last year.

  3. OK, The pattern is a long sleeve T-shirt pattern with raglan sleeves from Ottobre magazine which is pricey but if you have grandchildren worth buying one because they have a full wardrobe in each magazine. I cut a slit in the back because the pattern was for jersey and fleece doesn't stretch the same. Search online and you can buy single back issues, that is what I do, I don't subscribe I chose one which everyone liked. Tip? Use a sharp needle on the machine and tack it as it moves around against itself. Other than that easy-peasy. Cut with pinking shears and then there is no need to finish seams. I sewed and finished on my overlocker with four reels so it did both jobs at the same time but you certainly don't NEED an overlocker. Jo xx
