It is a summer knit really but isn't that how us knitters work?
Make for summer in the winter and winter in the summer. I was certainly knitting earflap hats for the kids on the beach in August!
The pattern was from Drops. It doesn't have a name yet. It is called 100-32. Not very inspiring but it it was just what I was looking for.
I threw away an aged purple Monsoon cardigan this summer and needed a replacement. I wear a purple cardigian with so many of my dresses. Until I threw the old one away I didn't realise how much I missed it.
The sleeves are bracelet length which is useful for work but a pain for putting a coat on but it will be Summer so no worries there.
The yarn is Louisa Harding Jesse 100% Cotton. Fantastic quality and really improved my knitting tension. I think cotton knits better on metal straights than on my circular bamboo ones - but that might be just me. The yardage is small on these skeins - 89 metres for 50g so I used 8 skeins. It was in a sale but for me it was a princely sum but necessary to make this replacement garment.
Two Skeins left over, mmm what will I make?

As you say, you will get a lot of wear out of your purple cardigan. So the cost won't seem so high eventually. Maybe the spare yarn could become a little collar or small cowl.

ReplyDeleteA lovely knit, the colour is beautiful. I love the idea of a top of a dress, I have just found a pattern for a crochet top for my Grandaughter that I am thinking of making.

This is BEAUTIFUL! The color is great, the style is great, the length, the edging. It's perfect! And, of course, makes me wish I could knit! I, too, have a purple cardigan that I wear far too often. I didn't for a long time, but kept it in the closet. One day I pulled it back out, and it hasn't been in since - I wear it like a jacket most days! Something about purple and warm/cosy just makes sense to me!

Lovely: knitting, color, and pattern, Jo...and I am wondering if you have enough to make narrow strap tops for sun dresses for the girls...which no doubt confirms my ignorance of the amount of yarn it takes to do something like that :-) xx

ReplyDeleteYour cardigan is beautiful - really well made and a stunning colour. I knit a cardigan using a Drops pattern which turned out very well - more of a jacket than a cardigan. I've started a crocheted cardigan for myself but I think it will be a while before it's finished.
ReplyDeleteI think that's how us knitters are meant to work, not sure in practice ;-) I think Drops should have given it a name too, we'll let you do that. It's a terrific colour and I like the edge (moss stitch?)
ReplyDeleteMy dress makers dummy has arrived, it's not as sophisticated looking as yours with it's frankenstein's monster dials, but I'll stick a white top on it and get photographing my cardigan :-)
As for the left overs, I'd make myself mittens (#selfishknitter) but the top of a dress sounds like a lovely idea :-) x

The sweater is gorgeous, I love the pattern and yarn choice. You can't go wrong with purple. You need to make a cowl or scarf with the left overs that you can wear right now. By the way it fits you beautifully.
