What is a card-present?

A card-present? What is that? It is an African flower coaster stuck to a card with double sided tape for members of staff at Little M's Pre-school where she will be leaving next week. They can remove the coaster after they have finished with the card!

Inside it reads, 'Remove the coaster, make a nice hot cup of tea, sit down and put your feet up for the summer. Thanks for all of your help and hardwork'

I didn't follow the pattern correctly at first so the blue one below is 'wrong' but very right somehow.

The inspiration came from the urge of mine to use up every last bit of something. I had a tiny bit of DK Echo from my jumper to use up. I hate putting scraps like that in my wool stash they sort of niggle at me. So I went into my cotton yarn zippy bag (I know, I have one!) and found some dishcloth yarn and some red patons smoothie left from a school jumper.

The wrapped present is one of the chicken brooch pins from the left hand bar for Big Sis's teacher - she loves a bit of crochet!

I made some more for another time to finish the blue and red yarn with enough cream cotton for a another little project - maybe a jam jar cover, dish cloth, flower brooch, who knows?

Have you been making any gifts lately?

  7. these are great! i love that they go beyond a thank-you card in being something useful! i recently made a little bunting for a pregnant penpal, and used up most of my annoying but very pretty leftovers from the quilt project for my own little one on the way. it's very satisfying to use up those niggly bits and bobs that should be thrown out but too nice to do so... i wish i could crochet though, never managed to learn it.

  10. These are brilliant :-) I made snowflakes for christmas, and because they're just plain white I used some fancy paper for the background. A great idea for birthday cards :-)
