On the needles

I am knitting a boring black cardigan where I promised myself I would not knit anything else until it was finished but boy is it dull especially as I had knit two right fronts and had to frog a load of my hard work. It is a poor excuse but I succumbed to a new knitting project. I cast on the Saroyan scarf which is free from ravelry. 9416 people can't be wrong!

The leaf border is enough to keep me keen but not complicated enough to use swear words. There is a video tutorial of the 14 rows needed to make each leaf which was really helpful here. The yarn is beautiful. It is Katia Tupa50% Merino and 50% silk, which I bought in a wool shop in Whitby last May on holiday.

I am making it for my friend who works for the education department at RAF Cosford where she wears navy or red to work everyday. She takes school children around for history visits and walks from one aircraft hanger to another in all weathers. I am really enjoying knitting this for her in such luxurious yarn. My black cardigan will have to wait a bit longer.

Thanks for stopping by. What is on your needles?

  1. I've been telling myself the same thing - no new projects until I've finished my cardigans. Though I'm about to cast on a fair isle cushion for my youngest son & my brother wants me to knit him a hat. That yarn looks lovely I haven't got any of that yet! Have a good week x

  4. Will check that out when I get home. I love reading blogs in my lunch break but then I desperately want to go home and pick up one of my many projects. Why do I need to work? Oh yes, to fund my addiction 😆

  5. I have much need for the useful black cardigan but I don't think I could knit with black as my eyes are just terrible these days. I am knitting a blue cowl that I am making up myself. It is turning our rather nicely but is hurting my hands as it is knitted flat and sideways and the needle is not long enough and I am having to keep scrunching the stitches up and down. I hope to find something in town to rectify that - like longer needles or circulars.

I have the Saroyan in my favourites. It is a lovely scarf and I hope to make it too. How nice of you to make it for your friend. I'm sure she will love it and that it will help keep her warm. Thanks for the helpful video link.

  6. That's the trouble with knitted garments like that cardigan, they look sensational when done but boy are they a lot of work. I have a pattern for a cotton crochet jumper and I know it'll look great on, but it will take about ten balls of cotton and about 100 hours of repetitive crochet so obviously I haven't started it yet! That's why it's good to have a few different WIPs on the go. xx

  9. Oh far out!!! I hate when I do two of the same side then have to pull it
all out again. Blah!! lol What an interesting job your friend has, it must
    be interesting.
    Cheers, Anita.

  10. Got 2 cardigans on the go at the moment. Plus 2 pairs of socks.Just finished hand warmers and 2 pairs of crocheted slippers.I think we all need little projects to do in between the big ones. Most people seem to do this. My son was based at R.A.F. Cosford, many moons ago in the late 80's.

  11. That is so pretty! Love the color, and any yarn with silk is the best yarn to me!
Right now my main project is working on finishing up a sweater.

  12. I think that it is really good that you are straight forward, however it would be great if you had some small projects along with this "boring" one:) It could help you to escape routine.

  14. The shawl is beautiful already, Jo. I am glad you are enjoying making it, and those positive feelings will refuel your determination to finish the black sweater. I have confidence in you! xx
